The upcomming annual meeting of the specialist group for macroecology of the Ecological Society of Germany, Austria and Switzerland will be about “Macroecology in the age of big data”. With the focus on big data, we would like to invite the macroecological community to present their research in this exiting emerging field of ecological research at the WSL.The “Specialist Group on Macroecology of the Ecological Society of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland” is one of the leading scientific platforms for macroecological topics in central Europe. The primary goal of the annual meeting is to support the development of macroecological research in central Europe and beyond.
We are very happy to welcome four excellent keynote speakers from outside and inside the macroecology community who will present very different angles on how big data are shaping our research. There are many things we can learn from each other in terms of data, methodologies, and – not the least – inspiration. Maybe big data also needs big thinking? Reto Knutti and Wilfried Thuiller will lead us into the world of (ensemble) modelling in climate and biodiversity science. Martin Wikelski and Signe Normand will take us on a remote journey to answer small to large-scale questions in animal and plant ecology.
