Network initiatives which are relevant for Remote Sensing and Biodiversity/Conservation (please approach us if we missed your initiative):

The following three groups are highly interlinked and coordinate their activities. All of them approach the same issue, the improvement of remote sensing for biodiversity and conservation, from different angles:

  • CEOS Biodiversity group: focusing on the improvement of remote sensing for biodiversity research and conservation application. The Biodiversity activitiy is launched by CEOS, the Committee of Earth Observation Satellites, which coordinates global space borne activities. Hence CEOS Biodiversity clearly focused on the development of remote sensing.
  • GEO BON (Group on Earth Observations Biodiversity Observation Network) coordinates the activities on Biodiversity within the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS). Its aim is to organize and improve terrestrial, freshwater and marine biodiversity observations globally and make their biodiversity data, information and forecasts more readily accessible to policymakers, managers, experts and other users.
  • Conservation Remote Sensing network (CRSnet): focusing on applying remote sensing for conservation application, aim to provide guidance and foster the integration of remote sensing within conservation application
