This survey aims to obtain information from ecologists, conservationists and remote sensing scientists working in the interdisciplinary field of remote sensing within biodiversity and conservation in order to understand the needs and challenges of remote sensing applications. Through this user needs assessment we will be able to understand the status quo and future needs. The results will be communicated to decision makers e.g. CEOS, as well as the GEO framework, e.g. GEO BON, where all space agencies and other related research organisations coordinate activities.
Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions concerning the use of remote sensing for biodiversity research and conservation applications. This survey will help improve the understanding, use and future needs of Earth observation developments for biodiversity and conservation.
About the Survey
This user needs assessment aims to define the current usage, needs and shortcomings of remote sensing for biodiversity research and conservation applications.
This survey is being conducted by Christiane Plum for her M.Sc. thesis within the Global Change Ecology M.Sc. elite program supervised by Martin Wegmann and Allison Leidner (NASA) and in conjunction with the CEOS Biodiversity group. CEOS is the Committee of Earth Observation Satellites which coordinates civil space borne activities. The CEOS Biodiversity group aims at improving remote sensing deliverables for biodiversity and conservation.
Why you should take part in this survey?
We are aiming to obtain information from ecologists, conservationists and remote sensing scientists working in this interdisciplinary field in order to understand the needs and challenges of remote sensing applications. Through your response we will be able to understand the status quo and future needs. Please answer this questionnaire as well if you haven’t been working with remote sensing so far – that is the best way to improve remote sensing for your future needs!
The results will be communicated to decision makers e.g. via CEOS or GOFC-GOLD, as well as the GEO framework, e.g. GEO BON, where all space agencies and other related research organisations coordinate activities. Last but not least, you will help Christiane Plum obtain a representative sample for her M.Sc. thesis.
Your participation in this survey will help improve remote sensing developments with respect to biodiversity and conservation needs!
